Before heading back to the U.S., we drove to the medieval town of Ennis, in County Clare, near the Shannon Airport.  Since our return flight departed rather early, we spent the night here at the Old Ground Hotel, an 18th century manor house.  Among the sights in Ennis are the Harmony Row Bridge over the River Fergus, O'Connell Square, the Franciscan Abbey and the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul.
