Without a doubt, Sydney was our favorite city in Australia. In fact, it now ranks as one of our favorite cities anywhere and one that we would gladly revisit. Sydney is a beautiful and vibrant metropolis located on the southeast coast of Australia, across the Tasman Sea from New Zealand. It is the largest and most populous city in Australia (4.2 million residents) and is the capital of the State of New South Wales. The city is built on hills surrounding a spectacular harbor that features the world-renowned Sydney Opera House and the Harbor Bridge. The people are friendly, the food is great and the views are breathtaking.
Our hotel, the Sofitel Sydney Wentworth, was within walking distance of the harbor where we enjoyed some fabulous restaurants as we gazed at the sights. Among the highlights of our visit was the opportunity to lead our tour group in singing the American National Anthem in the Sydney Opera House and attending a performance there on my birthday.
