The Broadmoor Resort

The original impetus for this trip was the Association for Corporate Growth's annual InterGrowth conference (George was on their Board until December 2000).  This gave us an opportunity to visit with old friends from the Washington, D.C. area.  It also was our first experience with the beautiful (five star) Broadmoor Resort located at the foot of the Rockies in Colorado Springs.  The resort is close to Pike's Peak, the Air Force Academy, the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame (see below), Manitou Springs and the Garden of the Gods.

George got to play golf on the West course (one of three at the Broadmoor) which was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. and completed in 1964.  Here are a couple of images borrowed from other web sites.

Weather in Colorado Springs in early May can be very unpredictable.  When we arrived the weather was gorgeous and stayed that way through Tuesday (when George played golf).  The high on Tuesday was 85 degrees; on Wednesday the high was 40! and it snowed that night.  Here are two pictures taken at about the same spot on different days, that demonstrate the contrasting weather.  The Cheyenne Lake shown in the pictures is at the center of the resort property and was right outside our room.

One of the fun events included in our stay was a visit to the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame for an evening barbeque and roping demonstration.
